| They are at it again! Continued assault on the Second Amendment. What was it Rahm Emanuel said...."You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." Well Washington is doing exactly that. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced "The Assault Weapons Ban of 2013" bill. She said, "The purpose is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time." Senator Feinstein also said, "It (the bill) will not effect hunting or sporting firearms. Instead the bill protects hunters and sportsmen by protecting 2,200 specifically named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes. They are by make and model exempted from legislation." The legislation should be about protecting all arms, not some. This bill will "subject existing or grandfathered weapons (these are your currently owned guns) to a background check in the event the weapon is sold or transferred." There is a mandatory registration in a national database for those weapons and an additional tax per gun on those you already own. Shenanigans in the Senate Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) is trying, with the help of Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), to eliminate equal representation by each state. Some proposals floating around are: - Stop the filibuster - change from 60 votes to close debate on a contentious issue to a majority of only 51 votes.
- Allow only four Senators to be able to offer amendments to legislation shutting out 96 Senators from the process.
- Allow the Majority Leader to add an amendment after debate is finished on a bill.
Talk about a power grab. This is unacceptable. TAKE ACTION It is very important that we stay on top of the issues our nation is facing and that we share our opinion with our elected representatives firmly and frequently! Add this phone number to your contacts in your cell phone...then you can call your representatives whenever you find yourself with a moment to spare! (202) 224-3121 Congressional Switchboard They need to hear from you! Light up that switchboard. Thanks for all you do in keeping your eyes on public officials whether it's a phone call, e-mail, fax, going to their offices. We need to keep their feet to the fire. They think the Tea Party is going away. Show them that we aren't going anywhere. |
