SVTP March Meeting

Please join us March 26th
6:30pm at the Rock Falls Eagle's Club

Special Guest Speaker:
Congressman Joe Walsh

Come hear what the outspoken former Congressman has to say!

Thanks, Ulysses for arranging this opportunity to
hear from such a passionate and engaging speaker!

Well, it is too soon to tell if we will have a workable concealed carry bill or not.  IL Dems are busy playing games with the Constitution, but that is nothing new!  Madigan introduced bill 1155, which is basically an empty shell that they plan to fill with amendments to make sure that IL's concealed carry bill is as restrictive as possible.  The Illinois review had a very good summary of the proceedings in Springfield as gun control and concealed carry was debated and discussed this week.  Read IL Review's Summary HERE
I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised to see that Mike Smiddy actually voted in line with the Constitution on every one of these amendments!  So did Tom Demmer, although that wasn't nearly as much of a shock!  Please call Smiddy and Demmer's offices and say Thank you for standing up for the Second Amendment and your right to defend yourself and your family!!!!

It's not too late to weigh in on this issue!!!!

The Good
HB 1008:  prohibits additional fees and taxes on guns and ammo
HB 0997Shall Issue Concealed Carry--  bill would authorize you to carry a loaded or unloaded handgun on or about his or her person, concealed or otherwise; keep or carry a loaded or unloaded handgun on or about his or her person when in a vehicle; and keep a loaded or unloaded handgun openly or concealed in a vehicle. Establishes qualifications for licensees, certified firearms instructors, and instructor trainers. Provides for home rule preemption (which would nullify any new federal gun restrictions)
HB 1023:  Would basically institute Constitutional Carry by denying state and local municipalities the power to regulate gun ownership in any way
HB 0154:  Allows for open or concealed carry with proper training and permit
HB 1025:  Arms qualified Teachers to protect students
HB 1027:  Eliminates waiting period on an exchanged firearm
HB 1513:  Denies local municipalities from restricting gun regulations any further than those of the state
The Bad and The Ugly
SB 0042:  Semi-auto ban with registration and confiscation
HB 0159:   authorizes state police to revoke FOID card for failure to report lost or stolen gun
HB 0132:   Semi-auto Ban--authorizes "emergency procurement for an assault weapon registration system".  --makes it illegal to deliver, sell or purchase a "semi-automatic assault weapon" or attachment, .50 caliber rifle or cartridge  --these weapons, magazines and ammo  are banned 270 after passing of this bill unless you submit a registration affidavit  --establishes registration fees  --bans large capacity ammunition feeding devices  --establishes assault weapons and large ammunition feeding device registration eligibility verification system
HB 1142:  Establishes Turn-In Programs, limits home rule
HB 1143:  Bans private firearm sales/transfers
HB1155:   Madigan introduced this mainly empty bill as a vehicle to amend with onerous prohibitions that would make concealed carry as limited as possible.

From just a cursory glance, here is some of what is contained in each:

The Good
HB 1008:  prohibits additional fees and taxes on guns and ammo
HB 0997Shall Issue Concealed Carry--  bill would authorize you to carry a loaded or unloaded handgun on or about his or her person, concealed or otherwise; keep or carry a loaded or unloaded handgun on or about his or her person when in a vehicle; and keep a loaded or unloaded handgun openly or concealed in a vehicle. Establishes qualifications for licensees, certified firearms instructors, and instructor trainers. Provides for home rule preemption (which would nullify any new federal gun restrictions)

HB 0154Allows for open or concealed carry with proper training and permit
HB 1025:  Arms qualified Teachers to protect students
HB 1027:  Eliminates waiting period on an exchanged firearm
HB 1513:  Denies local municipalities from restricting gun regulations any further than those of the state
The Bad and The Ugly
SB 0042:  Semi-auto ban with registration and confiscation
HB 0159:   authorizes state police to revoke FOID card for failure to report lost or stolen gun
HB 0132:   Semi-auto Ban--authorizes "emergency procurement for an assault weapon registration system".  --makes it illegal to deliver, sell or purchase a "semi-automatic assault weapon" or attachment, .50 caliber rifle or cartridge  --these weapons, magazines and ammo  are banned 270 after passing of this bill unless you submit a registration affidavit  --establishes registration fees  --bans large capacity ammunition feeding devices  --establishes assault weapons and large ammunition feeding device registration eligibility verification system --the state will contract with a private company that will determine eligibility to own "assault weapons", attachments, .50 cal guns and ammo and will maintain the registry of those owners!!!  --any person who transfers any firearm, stun gun, or taser shall keep a record of the transfer for 10 years...failure to do so would be a CLASS 4 FELONY  --failure to record the serial # used to be a petty offense, but would be upgraded to class 4 felony  --state police would be able to revoke your foid card if you fail to report the theft of a handgun within 72 hours of when you should have noticed it missing  --and, of course, they are determining which guns qualify as assault weapons by purely cosmetic characteristics!!!!
HB 1142Establishes Turn-In Programs, limits home rule
HB 1143:  Bans private firearm sales/transfers
HB1155:     You commit the offense of unlawful use of weapons when you --knowingly purchase, possess or carry any bludgeon, sling-shot, sand-club (which, apparently, is just a bag of sand you could use as a club!), dagger, dangerous knife etc.    or     carry or possess them with intent to use them against someone else--just to clarify, section 24-1 (a) simply says possess or carry!  --carry on or about your person or in your vehicle any object containing noxious liquid gas or substance (exempts pepper spray)...could that include your cigarette lighter or aerosol hairspray someday?  --carry or possess in any vehicle or concealed on your person (except on your own land) any pistol, revolver, stun gun or taser (unless they are broken down, in a box and not immediately accessible) --class 4 felony to sell, manufacture, purchase, possess or carry any weapon "made from a rifle or shotgun, whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise, if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches." --possess any explosive bullet
This bill is the one Madigan and our gun-grabbing elites want to become the concealed carry bill for Illinois and will likely be amended with multiple, onerous regulations and conditions which will make it nearly impossible to obtain a carry permit or will limit the types of guns allowed to be carried to a select few that no one even owns!

Excuse Me...Did I Read That Correctly???

What???
Let me sum up this outrageous thievery for you...ComEd managed to get the ILGA to override Quinn's veto on their rate increase last year.  We have all paid higher electric bills since it passed, but ComEd says it wasn't high enough!  So...they want to increase the rate again and send you a new bill for the energy you used (and paid for) LAST YEAR!  Even better--the new legislation passed UNANIMOUSLY out of the IL Senate Executive Committee last week!!!  Are you Angry Yet???  This is the kind of stuff they are getting away with because IL Voters are not paying attention and getting involved!

PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!  ENCOURAGE THEM TO CONTACT THEIR REPRESENTATIVES RIGHT AWAY!!!!
We need more Representatives who won't back down--More men and women who will take a firm stand for what is right!!!

Obama wants to raise the federal minimum wage to $9/hour!  Every time minimum wage increases, it has devastating consequences!   The cost of everything increases.  Employers must pay more for low-skill, entry-level positions, resulting in stagnant wages for valuable employees and lower employment rates for teenagers and other unskilled workers.
Tell Congress to Stop the Minimum Wage Increase!

Have You Filed Your Witness Slip Yet???

Tuesday, Feb. 19th in Springfield
Friday, Feb. 22nd in Chicago

I know most of us cannot afford to miss work and other commitments to attend these hearings, but, if you can, PLEASE do so!  This is vitally important to retaining our second amendment rights!  We need to make sure that our state representatives see a massive turnout in protest of their efforts to restrict our God-given right of self-defense!

If you cannot attend, PLEASE take a moment to submit a witness slip
in support of the second amendment and concealed carry!

More info and Witness Slip available HERE

Step-by-step directions on HOW TO FILE A WITNESS SLIP
If you can't be there in person, a witness slip is the next best thing!

Also, write AND call your state Representative and Senator!

 --Mike Jacobs has a 100% rating from the NRA, let's make sure his votes on this issue reflect that!    --Tom Demmer doesn't appear to have a rating--curious!    --Mike Smiddy is at 75%-let's make him see the light-let him know that you expect him to uphold his oath of office and protect your constitutional rights!
Survey of Doctors Shows Health Care System in Danger
Survey Conclusions:
     • Almost unanimous that medicine is on the wrong
       track, and overwhelmingly blame the
       government;
    • Government-imposed solutions (PPACA,
       electronic health information) destined to fail;
    • Highest numbers ever opting out of Medicare
       or refuse Medicaid;
    • Vacuum in leadership in medical profession, feel
       abandoned by AMA & organized medicine;
    • Corporate medicine (including hospital and
       insurance companies) is intentionally trying to
       destroy private practice;
    • Doctors are pessimistic – failing financially &
       assume things will worsen;
    • See doctors and patients as the solution – not
       government;
    • Believe direct payment by patients will restore
       accountability & patient control;
    • Restored autonomy, elimination of government
       involvement, increased patient responsibility
       and free market reforms are solutions.
