One Day Left for Get-Out-the-Vote Efforts
Hang in there!  Don't quit now!

If you or anyone you know has even a couple of hours they
can help distribute door-hangers tomorrow, we need your help!
We covered the majority of Rock Falls today, but have all of Sterling to do yet!
If you can help, PLEASE CALL ME!!!
One day to go and I will leave you all alone for awhile! :-)
This election is too important to sit on the sidelines!

Make sure your friends and family get out to vote!

If you have had your candidate signs stolen (mine were taken last night and so were my parents') make sure you file a report with the proper police department...that way, if they happen to catch someone, they can be held accountable!

My thoughts on the candidates:

Whiteside County Board
We have several new candidates throwing their hat in the ring this time around.  District 1: Shane Celestino is a young guy who has shown a desire to be well informed on the issues before the board.  We also have a few incumbents who are doing a good job:  Kurt Glazier and Jim Duffy.  District 2: Les Cady-- is passionate about protecting the interests of ALL county residents and who is willing to go the extra mile to make sure that he is well educated on the important issues.  Jerry Stanley--I believe he would bring a common-sense perspective that is sorely lacking.  He doesn't seem like someone who would make decisions based on the political party he is affiliated with or due to bullying and intimidation and should be able to work well with those on both sides of the aisle.  Joan Johnson--I have not had the opportunity to meet her, however, she is not a current member, so I would be willing to take a chance on her!  Gene Jacoby, Paul Cunniff and Bill Milby--they have shown a willingness to listen to both sides of the issues.  District 3:  Sue Britt has shown courage in standing against the intimidation of her fellow democrat members.  She has also spent a lot of time researching the wind farm issue and was quite disappointed in the way the board handled the special use permit process.  District 3 new candidates include Cami Schwennecker, James Ruddell and Martin Koster--I think all of them would add some fresh perspective to our stale and entrenched board!

If anyone would like to share their opinion on the Lee County Board Candidates, I would be happy to share that information as well.

Schilling Rally
Congressman Schilling has 16 rallies scheduled in the last 6 days of the election.  It would be great if we could get a good-size crowd to show up in Sterling!  This will be about a 20 minute rally, so you should still be able to attend and make it to work on time!

Monday, November 5th ~ STERLING ~ 8:30am Grandon Civic Center

What the media doesn't want you to know...
It is always interesting to see what stories are deemed worthy to report according to the mainstream media.  This election cycle they have done a very good job of hiding the real Mitt Romney.  Romney was NOT my first choice, but the more I learn about him, the more excited I am about getting to vote for him.  He has been portrayed as a rich, out-of-touch, white guy who doesn't care about 47% of this country.  He wants dirty air, dirty water and our senior citizens to die quickly.  None of these things are true.  Here are a few things you probably haven't heard about Mitt Romney:
Ballot Initiative to Amend the IL Constitution
I have had a LOT of people ask me for information on the mailing from the Secretary of State about a question that will appear on all Illinois ballots.
After reading through the full language of the proposal, I have decided that I will be voting NO on this issue.  I have a few concerns.  1.)  This does not change much.  Most pension increases have passed our General Assembly by large margins, so requiring a slightly larger margin isn't going to stop them if they decide to do so.  2.)  This does nothing to fix our pension deficit.  It does not address the fact that our pension system is woefully underfunded!  So, it is just a ploy to make us THINK they are tackling the problem!  3.)  Governor Quinn wants to change our flat state income tax to a progressive tax with 8 tax brackets, the highest being 11%!  The IL Constitution requires a flat tax, so, to institute Quinn's progressive tax, they need to amend the IL Constitution.  I can't help but think that this "do nothing" pension referendum is just a trojan horse to get support for a Constitutional Convention so that they can try to amend the Constitution to allow a progressive tax.
Here is more information on this issue so that you can do your own homework:

We need YOU on Sunday, November 4th!
(and/or Monday, November 5th)
We have only FOUR people out of our membership list of 230+ people signed up to go door-to-door...PLEASE commit to just an hour or two to help with this effort!
This election will determine the course of our country for the forseeable future!  We MUST change course, but it will take ALL OF US to make that happen!  Now is the time!
The Albracht & Morthland campaigns have a get out the vote doorhanger that needs to go out in the Sterling/Rock Falls area on Sunday and Monday, November 5th & 6th.  If you can help, please email us or call Rachel at 815-985-9567.
I hope to have at least 10 people each day to work in teams and cover a lot of ground in as short a period as possible!

Will YOU step up?

ATTENTION WHITESIDE COUNTY CONCEALED CARRY SUPPORTERS...
Concealed Carry petitions were presented to the Whiteside County Board at the October board meeting.  The issue has been referred to the executive committee.  They will discuss the 500+ petitions and the petition demands on November 9 at 3:30pm, room 117, Whiteside County Courthouse.  We need to make sure that we have a strong showing of support at that meeting!  The executive committee will determine whether or not the issue moves to the full board for a vote.  Please mark your calendar and plan to attend and speak in support of the petition demands!   Whiteside County Website
