***CORRECTION*** SVTP MEETING                   Our meetings are generally on the 4th Tuesday of every month, but we have changed the date due to the DHS Parent Academy (see information on the Dixon School Board's meeting on common core below) (I intend to be there and hope you will be as well!!!) So, our meeting has been backed up one day to WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH ROCK FALLS EAGLE'S CLUB @ 7:00PM (321 W. 2nd Street, Rock Falls)  I had previously listed the time as 6:30pm. That is our normal meeting time, but this meeting will begin a half hour later than normal. Juenger wanted to let me know that the Dixon School Board has been discussing Common Core for the past year and because of growing concerns, the Dixon School Board will be holding a meeting on Sept. 24th at 6:30pm in the Dixon High School Auditorium.  Parent Academy:  Common Core at the Local Level   It is yet to be seen if they are truly taking our concerns into account, or if they are simply trying to change our perception of the issues.  I hope you will attend if you are able!  Spend some time digging into this issue so that you can raise valid, articulate concerns at this meeting!  This is SO important!  These folks need to stop drinking the Kool-Aid! MORE ON COMMON CORE As you know, I am very concerned about the implementation of Common Core standards for many reasons...one of which being the huge financial burdens being placed on our local school districts.  HR 543 seeks to 'Pause' the implementation of the New IL Learning Standards (aka Common Core). THE BLACK NRA? A PROGRESSIVE INCOME TAX FOR ILLINOIS? The IL Constitution stipulates that we are to have a FLAT income tax rate.  Despite this inconvenient fact, IL Dems are pushing to change to a Progressive Tax which would increase taxes on everyone earning over $5,000!!! The Progressive tax is being sold as a Tax on the Rich--What is it Really? OBAMACARE IMPLEMENTATION Implementing Obamacare by Outsourcing Jobs to India SYRIA Everyone on the left criticized Bush for being a warmonger for taking us into Iraq.  At least with the Iraq war, we knew that Sadaam was aiding Al Qaeda...what is our interest in Syria???  How does it benefit the US to engage in another country's civil war?  Neither side is deserving of our support!  Obama wants to help the Syrian rebels.  The rebels are as brutal as Assad.  There are many stories of atrocities committed by these rebels..including video of them beheading people, making CHILDREN behead prisoners, and cutting out and eating a man's heart!!!  (Warning--VERY disturbing!) First, Obama drew a "Red Line" about the use of chemical weapons.  Then he said he never drew any lines.  Obama said he didn't need Congressional approval to take military action in Syria.  Then he asked for Congressional approval -- But he has said he may take action anyway.  Don't worry though--it will be a strategic airstrike only--no 'boots on the ground'. Congressman Charlie Rangel wants to re-institute the Draft before we take any action in Syria!   Does that sound like, "No boots on the ground" to you???
