| | | | | | #Stand with Rand What a Night!!! Yesterday, just before noon, after learning that the vote to confirm Brennan as director of the CIA would take place that afternoon, Rand Paul began an old-fashioned, talking filibuster. He had not planned, nor prepared to filibuster, but felt he had no choice and stepped up to the plate to do just that! When taking the floor, he said, "I will speak until I can no longer speak, I will speak as long as it takes, until the alarm is sounded from coast to coast that our constitution is important, that your right to trial by jury is precious, that no American should be killed on American soil without first being charged with a crime, without first being found to be guilty by a court," he added. And he proceeded to do as he said he would. Senator Paul spoke well into the morning hours and did not yield the floor until 13 hours after he began. With the help of a few principled Republicans and one lone Democrat, Senator Paul voiced his concerns over drone strikes on U.S. citizens within the United States. (the DOJ released a memo this week stating they believe that it would be legal to kill a US citizen in the US with a drone on the President's decision that he/she was an eminent threat). His only request was for a statement from the White House. "All I'm asking of the president is that he says in public that he's not in favor of summarily executing people." The President remained eerily absent and silent on this request! Even avowed Communist, Van Jones was impressed and called Rand "the Man" in a tweet late in the evening! PLEASE Call the White House and ask that President Obama release a statement saying that he will not use drones to kill U.S. Citizens on U.S. soil without due process of law! Contact the White House HERE If you had the opportunity to watch Senator Paul in action last night, I am sure you were as impressed as I was! We need more like him to stand strong on the Constitution and do what is right for the American people! | | | | | | | |
