Everyone Loves a Parade!
Join us in the Petunia Fest Parade on Sunday, July 3rd!

We are #39 and will line up on W. 9th Street (just west of Galena Ave).
Line-up begins at 11:00am and we would like everyone who is
walking or riding with us to be there no later than 12:30

The parade begins at 1:00.

Dress in Red, White and Blue, bring your flags and your family and come ready to be greeted by waves and smiles all along the parade route!  Last year was a LOT of fun and this year we have tons more goodies to hand out--Lots of pocket Constitutions, flags and candy!  If you could bring along an extra bag of candy for us to handout, that would be a big hit with the kids!  If you plan to join us, please send us a quick email at saukvalleyteaparty@live.com so we can get an idea of how many people will be representing the SVTP.  If you can't walk the route, don't let that stop you--we have space available for about 18 folks to ride!

  SVTP June Meeting

We were joined last night by local Sheriffs, John Varga and Michael Harn.  We appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedules to share their opinions and knowledge of 2nd Amendment Issues.  We had a full house, with about 75 people who came out to discuss this important issue!  We learned that they, along with many IL Sheriffs, support Concealed Carry.  They realize that they cannot be everywhere at once to protect everyone and that we should all have the ability to protect ourselves when necessary.  However, they both share concerns with the legislation that is currently working its way through Springfield (HB 148).  They feel that it is not specific enough in the implementation and leaves a lot of important things unaddressed as well as not requiring sufficient training requirements for obtaining permits.  Police officers are required to complete 40 hours of training and be recertified throughout the year.  HB 148 will most likely be revived when the fall session begins in Springfield.
If you see Sheriff Harn and Varga, be sure to thank them for joining us!

Come and Watch A Reading of the
Declaration of Independence...

9am Monday, July 4th at the Franklin Grove Historic Site

One of the most significant documents associated with the formation of our free country is the Declaration of Independence. It has been recognized as the prototype for use by patriots from numerous other nations in declaring their desire for freedom.

Here in our area, we have had an opportunity to hear the Declaration read each year for the past 9 years. This tenth consecutive reading will be held in the gazebo at the Historic Site in Franklin Grove, IL on July 4, 2011 at 9 AM . For this event, husband/wife teams representing the 13 colonies will be introduced (they will be dressed in early American clothing) and then, along with the patriots in attendance, will hear Tom Wadsworth's inspiring reading of the document that led to the creation of our great nation.

Please bring a chair (and a neighbor?) and plan to attend this most patriotic event! It is scheduled to be about one hour long; this will allow people to return home for any picnics or other family gatherings that they may have planned.

An earlier Tea Party certainly was one of the contributors to our country's formation. This is an opportunity to show our support of the Founding Fathers who made the sacrifices needed to gain our freedoms.

Happy Father's Day!
Fathers play such an important role in the development and character of our children.  Whether you have been there since birth or assumed the role later in a child's life, you are the foundation of strength and love.  God Bless all of you Fathers out there as you continue in the most important and rewarding job you could ever ask for!  (The same goes for any single mothers who are doing it all alone and have to fill that role as well!)

Join us in the Petunia Fest Parade,July 3rd in Dixon!

The Sauk Valley Tea Party will be part of the Fourth of July parade again this year.  We had a great time last year and were extremely well received by the crowd!  This is a chance for you to help us show our local communities that we are still here and going strong!  Most of us will walk the one mile parade route, but we will have a trailer with park benches for those who wish to participate, but are unable to walk the route.  This is a great opportunity for your whole family to get involved and have some fun!

We have pocket constitutions, key chains and more to handout along the route.  I will send information on line-up time and location once it is available.  The parade begins at 1:00pm.  (A special thanks to Lyle and Rosella Warner for pulling this together for us again this year!)

We hope you will join us for some fun in the sun!

"We need to stop just rearranging the chairs on the deck of the titanic."
         --Herman Cain

We made HUGE strides in the 2010 elections... but we can't stop there--our job is far from done!  With our newly gerrymandered map in IL, we will have to work very hard to keep those gains we made last year!  We risk losing many of our freshmen Congressmen in 2012 if we don't get involved and help get common-sense, hard-working folks to the polls in large numbers next year.  If we let IL Democrats take those seats back, we risk letting them take back the House of Representatives...that would be VERY bad for the future of our Republic.  The SVTP will be hosting many different election-oriented events next year.  We are going to need your help to have an influence in 2012!

Our Trip the Deficit Free America Summit was Great!  There were not as many Presidential candidates as expected because most were at the Republican Leadership Council meetings in New Orleans, but Tim Pawlenty, Gary Johnson and Herman Cain flew in to address the Summit and sign the Lean 6 Sigma pledge.  They committed to complete the Lean 6 Sigma program and complete a cost-savings project before taking office if they are elected.  The pledge also included a promise to balance the budget without tax increases.

We had a very informative afternoon and had a great time getting to know our fellow-patriots from Schaumburg, Huntley and Rockford on the bus trip to and from the summit!  Altogether, it was a great experience!
This Week in Congress
Tom Latham introduced H.R.2188 - The LESS Government Act

This bill states that every federal agency must implement steps to improve efficiency.  It also states that the savings found must be returned to the Treasury to be paid against the deficit!

Congressman Latham is also holding regulation round tables across Iowa to discuss the onerous regulations that are killing businesses and discouraging entrepreneurs.  He  is proposing legislation that would require all regulations to list Who proposed them, who wrote, them and include an economic impact study of the proposed regulations.  He wants Congressional approval before implementation of new regulations by unelected regulatory agencies and periodic review of ALL regulations.
This bill states that every federal agency must

Whiteside County has Proposed
"RULES FOR PUBLIC COMMENT"

After contacting Lee, Ogle and Bureau counties to inquire about their rules for public comment, I attended the Whiteside County Board Meeting to see what they were proposing for their new rule.  The Whiteside County Executive Committee is proposing rules that I feel are very restrictive and unreasonable by comparison!  Here is what they have proposed:

Public/employee comments and questions shall be:

    1. Submitted in writing prior to the meeting.  Forms shall be
       provided.
    2. Limited to five minutes per person.  Total time allotted to
public comment shall not exceed 30 minutes without consent of
       the Board/Committee Chairman.
    3. Directed to the Board/Committee and not to individual
       members.
    4. Presented in a professional demeanor and not in a
threatening, profane, vulgar or abusive manner.
    5. Topics that are relevant to the business matters of the
       County Board/Committee.

It shall be the decision of the Board/Committee Chairman if
it is appropriate to respond to a question and which Board
member will respond.  Individuals who engage in repetitive
comments/questions will be asked to refrain and/or yield
the floor.  The Board/Committee chairman may ask speakers
expressing similar viewpoints to elect one
person from the group to speak on their behalf.

Public comment shall not be allowed on agenda items coming
to the Board/Committee from a public hearing where sworn
testimony was taken.  Those wishing to comment on these items
should attend and speak at the public hearings.
(Agenda, Regular Meeting of the Whiteside County Board, May 17, 2011)

Debt Ceiling Vote
Goes Down in Flames!

John Boehner brought the Debt Ceiling increase to the floor for a straight up or down vote this week--no amendments, no spending cuts tied to it.  This is just what Obama has been saying they want...they claimed Republicans were playing games with our nation's world standing by trying to tie it to spending cuts.  So, how did it go?  Not a single Republican voted to Increase the Debt Ceiling, 97 Democrats voted for the Increase, and 82 Democrats voted with Republicans AGAINST the Increase!

Now it is time to contact your Representatives and Senators and tell them they better get some SERIOUS committments on spending cuts before they even consider raising this obscene number any higher!  Contact Info available HERE

It takes active involvement to get things done.  When those of us who began to organize for the SVTP first got involved, we were WAY out of our comfort zone.  None of us had ever done anything like this before and none of us wanted to actually lead.  But, we recognized that this is of vital importance, so we did what we felt had to be done.  We cannot do it alone!  We need YOU!  Please, get off the sidelines, step out of YOUR comfort zone and join us!
We are in a fight for the soul of our nation and we need your help!
